The diet is based on the principle that sugars and refined carbohydrates act as food for candida in the gut and that in addition there is often a secondary sensitivity to yeast-containing foods. What to eat and drink. | Vegetables: | Fresh veg eaten raw, steamed, boiled or stir-fried. Organic if possible. Garlic is highly effective anti-fungal agent. | | Meats, Fish and Seafood: | Lean meats (organic if possible) fish and seafood in moderation. | | Whole Grains: | Unless sensitive on testing. Organic if possible. Whole wheat, oats, brown rice, barley, rye, millet. Non-yeasted breads. Wholemeal pasta. | | Fruits: | Avoid if possible during first 3 or 4 weeks of diet. Then moderate amounts, say, 3 pieces a day peeled. Organic if possible. | | Nuts: | If freshly shelled, avoid peanuts and pistachios. | | Seeds: | Sunflower, pumpkin, sesame. | | Legumes: | Beans, lentils, tofu. | | Milk: | Unless sensitive on testing, limited amounts only. Organic if possible. Natural Live yoghurt. Cottage cheese | | Eggs: | Unless sensitive on testing, once or twice a week. | | Unrefined vegetable oils: | Sunflower, safflower, soya, sesame, corn, olive, canola (rape seed). | | Drinks: | Spring water. Herb tea. |
Foods Containing Sugar and refined Carbohydrates White sugar, brown sugar, sucrose, fructose, glucose, dextrose, corn syrup, malrose. Caramel Honey. "Hidden sugars" in packaged and processed foods. White flour, white rice. Yeast Containing (or mould contaminated) Foods Yeasted breads, rolls and pizza. Alcoholic drinks (beer, wine, cider, spirits). Cheeses, buttermilk, sour cream. Yeast extract (marmite, vegemite, Bovril, gravy mixes). Fermented products (vinegar, pickles, soy sauce, miso). Malted products. Mushrooms. Grapes. Dried fruits. Nuts (unless freshly shelled). Yeast-derived vitamins. Citric acid. Monosodium glutamate. Black tea. Fruit juices (from concentrated or frozen). Tea Coffee and Cold drinks These cause a release of stored sugar by the liver and should be avoided during early weeks of diet.
