There’s only little answers when one limits themselves to ‘traditional’ Western medicine (i.e. family doctors). The second I went to a naturopath, I was progressing at warp speed towards recovery… and I stayed in great shape for over five years! Mind you, I slipped this year (though I avoided the dreaded flare-up), but I pretty well know why. I guess I just feel ‘Does God cause Ulcerative Colitis?’ to be a question similar to ‘Did God cause that plane crash?’ God gave us free will, right?

Certainly there might be some blame on self, diet, etc, but since the cause of UC is relatively unknown nobody can put the blame on any one thing. Asking about God’s place, though, isn’t necessarily about assigning blame, but rather to seek understanding with a disease that offers little answers.

Let me bring a different angle. Personally, I believe in a loving God (though not necessarily in religion) or beneficial “God force”, if you will… not a “judge”.
I believe asking “Does God cause UC?” shifts the blame from one’s self, diet, and emotions… onto something beyond ourselves. Maybe we’re not at fault: religion teaches us that Jesus can “save” us and the devil can lead us astray. What about us? “God helps those who help themselves.” Could this be the result of our own actions?

UC is an easy disease for most people, there are much worse and life threatening ones. You get sick once,Doc puts u on prednisone,2nd time,..you get a Jpouch and life goes on,never to get colon cancer. (stay away from raw fish jpouchers) as an atheist ,I wont comment on the religous part

Most people won’t care for their colon at all. I also didn’t before that disease. The most important thing to do is to understand, that your colon isn’t bad or working against you. the colon just got really ill and you need to treat it that way. When my condition went worse last year, I didn’t think of the stress from my job and how to change it, but was angry against my colon and changing this behaviour is the most important thing when having this disease.

i don’t belive in god as well.
I think UC is better than chron’s disease or multiple sklerose. My father had the latter and got into a wheelchair because of that.
I’m having quite a hard time and I don’t know how a child is able to handle this.
I’m currently getting a new medicine from an university and it’s the first that works and also doesn’t mess up my immune system. I also changed much in my life for the better (eating, etc.) and I think that’s definitely good.
