Well here it is. It's taken me a while to get back to you but Ive been very busy.

First of all I'd like to reply to a few comments I've had:

1.Perhaps I've been a bit premature in calling it a cure. I have had to adjust my diet to gain  perfect health, no it's not a cure but neither is surgery.(Unless virtually all the digestive system is removed!)I could not be operated on because my Crohns involvement was extensive and also involved part of my stomach.(Making my recovery I believe even more remarkable)

2.When I was previously technically in remission (my disease markers were very low) I was still very lacking in energy, and far from well, probably because I was still continually poisoning myself with my diet.

3. Unfortunately, my fiancee who has Ulcerative Colitis also tried this diet but found that exclusion of Dairy and certain 'windy' fibrous foods were the only things that helped him - very limited success for UC.

Okay, just a few points about the diet:

1.I was given an eight week course of Elemental E208 drinks before this diet which I believe sped up my recovery if you can get this from your Doctor/Consultant I would recommend it, if not go straight on to the diet but be aware you may feel groggy through withdrawal of your usual foods - its normal to crave foods you are intolerant to & INITIALLY feel better (almost high) when or if you retry them - dont be fooled!!

2.It is an intolerance diet, everyone reacts differently so you have to find your own 'path'

3.Please consider very carefully which of the 'permitted' vegetables you want to include if you have any strictures (narrowed bowel segments) I found I had problems with some of the permitted vegetables as they were very fiberous. I have used an asterisk to denote possible "fiberous foes"

4.Cut out IMMEDIATELY anything on the permitted or reintroduced foods as soon as symptoms occur.

5.I know its not easy but you must be very vigilant - your body knows when you are cheating! Most off the shelf products are not permitted - check the contents of spices (possibly wheat) and all packets for hidden ingredients.

6. Check with your Dr/ Dietician, (I need a Vitamin supplements of Vit C 500mg(Buffered Ester C) and Zinc 15mg due to low fruit & veg intake) Send out copies of your diet to friends so that they know what to expect.

7. Last but not least & to be a real party pooper, if you smoke (or are subjected to smoke)

STOP. My Consultant says it the most likely single cause of relapse.

LOW FAT/LOW FIBRE EXCLUSION DIET

This diet excludes all those foods which are most likely to cause food intolerance. This diet must be followed for a minimum of 4 weeks, or until symptoms cease. Do not rush your meals take time to chew food well & eat regularly - 3-4 meals a day. Ensure you drink plenty of fluid. Keep a diary during this time recording food eaten & symptoms suffered.

Re-Introduction of Foods

If you have had no symptoms for at least the last two weeks you may start to re-introduce foods slowly back into the diet.

Each food must be tested for 4 days unless otherwise stated. Foods should be taken in a large quantity twice a day. If your symptoms do not return, you can assume that the food you ate was safe and go on to add another food. If they did return, the new food was probably responsible and should be left out of your diet from now on.

Safe foods can be added to subsequent meals.

If a reaction occurs it will usually last 3-5 days but may go on longer. During this time it is impossible to assess other foods properly therefore stick to foods already known to be safe.

DO NOT REINTRODUCE NEW FOODS UNTIL YOU ARE WELL AGAIN

New Food

Procedure

Pork

Oats

Tea

Ryvita (plain rye only crackers)

Eggs

2 a day

Onions

test cooked & raw

Coffee

test coffee beans & instant

take 3 x 500mg brewers yeast tablets per day or 2 tsp fresh yeast

Banana

Apple

Milk

1 pint a day preferably sterilised/heat treated over 80 deg C

Butter or Margarine

White wine

if yeast was not tolerated, test spirits instead

Chocolate test plain chocolate or cocoa (milk free if not tolerated)

Tomatoes

Cheese

Corn (Maize)

test cornflakes, cornflour, polenta or plain corn chips

Citrus fruits

Wheat test for 7 days taking wheat at each meal, - breakfast cereal & pasta, flour.

Yoghurt

Nuts

Once you have finished reintroduction, you must check with a Dietician that you are receiving adequate nutrition.
