Colon Cancer - Everything For the Layman

Colon cancer is cancer of the large intestine, the lower part of your digestive
system. It is the second most common cancer in the USA with equal distribution
between men and women. Colon cancer usually affects people over the age of 40,
with the majority of people who are diagnosed with the condition being over 60
years of age. This disease may affect any racial or ethnic group; however, some
studies suggest that Americans of northern European heritage have a
higher-than-average risk of colon cancer.

Mastocytic Enterocolitis or Mastocytic Inflammatory Bowel Disease (MIBD), A New
Epidemic?

Mastocytic enterocolitis is a new clinical entity characterized by increase
mast cells of 20 or more per high-powered field in the duodenum or colon. Jakate
et al. described 47 patients with intractable diarrhea and abdominal pain
without other cause who had elevated mast cell numbers in intestinal biopsies
and responded to therapy directed at mast cells. The patients generally met
criteria for diarrhea predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Normal
subjects had much lower levels of mast cells of an average of 12 per HPF. My
experience indicates that this condition may be another hidden epidemic that
should be added to the that of celiac disease and non-celiac gluten sensitivity
(NCGS). My colleague Dr. Rodney Ford has suggested the term ‘gluten syndrome”
for the broader problem of non-celiac gluten sensitivity and I agree that this
may be a more appropriate term. Now, I am suggesting that mastocytic
inflammatory bowel disease (MIBD) be considered as a better term for the newly
recognized mastocytic enterocolitis. I review my reasons below.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome May Be Due To Missed Celiac Disease Or Food Intolerance

Irritable bowel syndrome is the most common gastrointestinal diagnosis yet it is not really a disease nor does it have confirmatory diagnostic tests. Rather, it is diagnosed based on a constellation of symptoms and the absence of other diagnoses. Common symptoms attributed to IBS are abdominal pain, cramping,
diarrhea, bloating and excess gas. Celiac disease or gluten sensitivity is a common but frequently missed gastrointestinal diagnosis. Ingestion of gluten containing foods in affected individuals commonly causes symptoms attributed to IBS that are relieved with gluten-free diet in at least 10-20% of people
misdiagnosed with IBS. Other food intolerances are also a likely a cause of IBS symptoms that may improve with avoidance of certain foods.

ever since i had to get a colonoscopy exam and i was diagnosed with colitis ive been so depressed?

no one really understands what i have. they dont understand that i cant leave the house because i wont feel good or might have to use the bathroom. it sucks living in fear. anyone else suffer from colitis? i need some kind of support.
